Going the Distance

Man it has been far too long since I updated!

A lot has happened over the last two weeks, which is why I didn’t have much time to post.

My 25th birthday was on the 8th so the boy and I decided to take an actual vacation. We decided on Canada. We drove from Boston to Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal. It was an AWESOME time and I see why people take these things called vacations now! So while that was happening, the boy surprised me on my birthday and asked me to marry him. So now we’re engaged! 🙂

Emphasis on ‘surprise.’ I didn’t see it coming but I was pleasantly surprised.

Boston has also been having some lovely snow storms over the past two weeks combined with chaos at work, has made for a lack of updates.

Anywho, I’m back to the grind. The 5K is basically two months away and my goal is to beat my time of 47 minutes. I’m trying to get down to running a solid 13-14 minute mile. My overall goal in minutes-per-mile is 12. I’ve been overcoming my fear of running on treadmills this week and been running on that and then using the rowing machine (my new favorite piece of equipment). With all the walking I did in Canada I’m hoping to either have maintained my weight or lost a little bit. If I gained weight, I’ll be upset.

Anywho, I randomly started getting magazine subscriptions for Redbook and Health, I don’t know why but I’m not complaining. There are some good workout and health tips in there!

I’ve also been researching fitness bands, and I’m thinking about going with the new Fitbit when it comes out. It tracks sleep, fitness and uses bluetooth to update your account. It’s $99, which is much cheaper than the Nike Fuelband that everyone seems to be going crazy over. I think the new Fitbit does more too. The boy and I are going to get one and I’m getting him to run the B.A.A. 10K with me…although he may have forgotten he committed to that. OH WELL.

I wanted to share this workout I got from one of the blogs I follow, Greatist. It’s a no-gym workout that you can do in 30 minutes and I’m going to do it this week. I’ll let you know how it goes…

Try it out for yourself!
